What's It About?

From writer/director Rob Zombie comes the strangest love story ever told. Lily is just your typical 150-year-old, lovelorn vampire looking for the man of her nightmares . . . that is until she lays eyes on Herman, a seven-foot-tall, green experiment with a heart of gold. It's love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet in this crazy Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily's father The Count has other plans for his beloved daughter's future, and they don't involve her bumbling beau Herman. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll howl at the moon as The Munsters make their way to Mockingbird Lane!

Video/Audio

Presented in the film's original aspect ratio of 1.78:1, THE MUNSTERS looks amazing. The film finished shooting just three and a half months ago so it should look amazing. While the dark scenes feel and look very digital, once the film goes outside, the film starts to look and feel like a real film. The colors are gorgeous. Clarity and detail are impressive. This is a great transfer.

The DTS-HD Master Audio track is great. There is nothing wrong with it and everything is well balanced.

Commentary by Rob Zombie
The Munsters: Return to Mockingbird Lane (1h 1s, HD, 1.78:1) This is a surprising doc. Not that the doc covers every day of shooting, but the fact that it is longer than ten minutes. I figured Universal would have given a talking heads promotional making of, but they gave us a fly-on-the-wall doc that is pretty good.

THE MUNSTERS comes to blu-ray courtesy of Universal Home Entertainment. The slipcover features the film's poster art and is embossed. The blu-ray case features the exact same artwork. The disc features our three characters and some bats in black & white along with the film's logo and production companies.

                    The disc is REGION FREE

Overall

THE MUNSTERS is the film Rob Zombie has made in the last 13 years. The film is incredibly faithful to the series and you can see that Zombie truly loves the series. Universal actually went a lot further than I expected with this blu-ray. Of course, the picture and the sound are going to be great, but it's the special features I was surprised with. We get an hour long making of, which is wonderful, and a commentary from Zombie. If you liked this film, then buy the blu-ray. If you are on the fence, you can watch it on Netflix to help with your decision.
