The Secret of the Sword

"I've got that flying horsey in my sight" He-Man & the Masters of the Universe was a massive hit toy line and a massive hit animated TV series. He-Man ruled the airwaves in the 80s and it would only make sense to not only make a feature length theatrical film but also a new spin-off series with a new character! The film follows Price Adam/He-Man as he embarks on the search for his twin sister. Turns out that a new villain by the name of Hordak had kidnapped He-Man's twin sister shortly after birth and taken here to another dimension on a planet called Etherea. No one knows what happened to the little girl, Adora. But, with this information and with a magical sword, He-Man is on his way to find Princess Adora.  What much can be said of "The Secret of the Sword", it's not necessarily a film for cinemas as there is nothing special enough about the movie for it to warrant a theatrical release, other than the length of the film. The animation remains the

James Gunn's Slither Coming to Blu-ray This June

Scream Factory has announced a release date and provided cover art for James Gunn's directorial debut, Slither.

"A wickedly fun horror flick!" – David Germain, Associated Press
Prepare yourself for this terrifying, twisted and chilling film that critics are calling "the most entertaining horror movie in years" (Joe Williams, St. Louis Post-Dispatch).
From the co-writer and director of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, comes the deliciously demented story of an unnamed evil wreaking havoc on a small town. Intent on devouring all life on Earth, this dark and slimy entity is infecting anyone in its path. Now it's up to the local sheriff, Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion, Firefly, Serenity), and his team to stop the spread of rampant devastation – and shocking mutilation – before it's too late. This outrageously funny horror film also stars Michael Rooker (Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Walking Dead), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) and Gregg Henry (Body Double, Jason Bourne).

Slither has been a favorite of mine since its release in 2006. The film is a throwback to films of the 80's even taking major cues from Night of the Creeps (1986). The fact that Gunn was able to get this cast and Universal to give him the money to make this film is amazing.

I have been following Gunn since his days at Troma, where he wrote Tromeo & Juliet. He then moved on to writing the two Scooby-Doo live action films in 2002 and 2004, as well as the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake.

After Slither, Gunn dabbled in the internet web series craze with PG Porn, a series that sounds exactly like what it is. He then went on to direct the criminally underrated Super, about a man who wants to be a superhero but lacks the money and super powers, but still gives it his all. Gunn also wrote a video game, Lollipop Chainsaw before getting his big break with 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Slither is sure to come with all of the special features from the DVD and HD-DVD releases of the film in addition to new features including a cast and crew commentary that Gunn announced today:

I'd like to officially announce that after MANY YEARS of waiting, and me endlessly bitching to the rights holders, FINALLY my directorial debut Slither will be available on Blu-Ray. The wonderful folks from Scream Factory will be distributing a brand new edition on July 25 of this year. It will have lots of cool extras including a NEW COMMENTARY FROM ME AND THE CAST. It's like "When Harry Met Sally" only it's "When Gunn Met Rooker (and Fillion and Banks and Henry)." These people all changed my life. And Slither is how they did it.
I think that this will be one of the best blu-ray releases of 2017 and it will hit store shelves on July 25th, 2017.
