Video/Audio
Terror Vision is proud to prsent this rare kung-fu film that has been bootlegged and presented unfairly for decades. For the first time since it's theatrical release, Game of Killers is scanned, restored, and presented in it's original aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Game of Killers survives from a print that was found in a warehouse in China that suffered immense damage and loss of color during tirs chemical breakdown from unhealthy storage conditions.

Terror Vision has restored and meticulously color-timed the print in order to bring you the possible picture to date. While the picture is still rough at times, it is impossible to NOT enjoy this rare oddball piece of cinema.

This is what the back of the box says about how the film looks. They are right. GAME OF KILLERS looks REALLY rough, but knowing gives me pause to say that it looks like crap or that the transfer is terrible for reasons that shouldn't really apply to something like this. There was really no way for Terror Vision to do anything better than what they have done here without a great cost. Sure, the film could have been cleaned up more and given a restoration Universal gave to their Monster films a decade or so ago, but they don't have Universal money to play with. What they have done here is incredibly impressive. They have taken a film that was a mainstay at flea markets everywhere during the 80s and 90s, and given it a new lease on life. The print they had to work was degraded so they did what they could to bring it back to life. There are all kinds of imperfections found all over this transfer. Cuts, scrapes, lines, hairs, dots, a few rough splices can be found at any time. I don't have a problem with any of this as I am very forgiving when it comes to stuff like this. Could I shit all over Terror Vision for not doing more to make this most perfect transfer ever? I am sure I could but why would I want to? They have done a great job with GAME OF KILLERS. I don't know if anyone else would have given this much time and attention to this film as they have. I love the way the film looks here. It reminds us that we are watching something that was shot on film while also giving us a ton of reassurance that they have not applied any DNR to the picture.

Now, we have two different soundtracks and they are very different. The English track is clear and precise. You can hear everything that is going on and understand what people are saying. The Mandarin Audio version is not very good. The sound is muffled and hard to make out at times. The thing with this version is that the Mandarin track was thought to be lost so this is all we have. For something that no one thought existed anymore, it sounds better than you would have expected. Sure, it's soft and thin but it's there. That is the most important part.

Extras/Packaging

Game of Killers Interview with Barry Chan (6m 54s, HD, 1.78:1) Dude is the head of the Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do Association of Taiwan. At 17, he joined the Nan Kuo Acting Troupe, where he worked with Dean Shek (who was also studying acting) and Ng See Yuen (who was studying directing). He talks about living with David Chiang Ti Lung at Shaw Brothers and how Ti Lung loved scaring people. He left Shaw Brothers at the end of his contract because he wasn't getting good roles. He had to learn Mandarin for the film as it was shot with sync sound. Hong Kong films are shot MOS or without sound. This is done because it speeds up the shooting time because you don't have to worry about doing another take because of sound problems. You just go in afterwards and dub everyone. He says at one point, he had 13 films in production at the same time.
The Unknown Legacy of Barry Chan by Shaun Williams (13m 34s, HD, 1.78:1) This is a video essay that covers Chan's career. Chan seems to have had a pretty cool career.

Packaging wise, this is a good looking release. The slipcover looks like something you would find in an 80s video store's foreign section. The front cover of the blu-ray case is a slightly modified version of what is on the slipcover. There is some inner artwork that is a still from the film. There is also a "Creep Coin" inside. This is a promotional item that Terror Vision includes in every one of their releases. If you collect a certain amount (there are a bunch of different amounts found on the back of the insert) then you can get something for free. The lowest amount, 10 coins, gets you a free Terror Vision cassette of your choosing while the highest amount, 125 coins, gets you 2 VIP tickets  to the next TV Fright Fest in Savannah.

The disc is REGION FREE

Overall

GAME OF KILLERS might be the most juvenile kung fu flicks I have ever seen. This thing is just as much a comedy as it is a martial arts film. The comedy doesn't really ring well for me as it was a bit too goofy for my tastes. I have no problem with something being goofy but the comedy has to work. The stuff here just isn't funny. It felt like the jokes were made up on the day of shooting and they just shot whatever they came up with. The fight scenes are pretty decent, if not all that exciting. The film isn't a bad watch. I wasn't mad I watched it and it isn't the worst thing I have ever seen. It's just ok. I could see myself revisiting this years from now. I can't wholeheartedly recommend GAME OF KILLERS, but I do think you could give it  a chance if you have nothing better to watch.

Terror Vision has done a great job with GAME OF KILLERS. The picture quality will be questionable to some but there are reasons for this. While the English language track is nice, the Mandarin track is not but there are reasons for this as well. The special features package is very light, but worthwhile. In the end, this is a good release for one of the more polarizing martial arts films I have ever seen.
