Sometimes they are there to pretty up an otherwise crappy package (they used to announced as special features) or they are used to enhance an already special package. 2016 was a good, but not great, year for films. I saw more "meh" films than I have seen in quite some time, When the year began, I was hopeful. We started out with Deadpool and then it went downhill from there.

Every year there are a handful of films that surprise us. These are the films that we saw even when the trailer didn't look good. Theses are the films that should have been bad, but for one reason or another are not. I chose five for this list and five for the disappointments list.
